leathered
beautiful face
me
turning sandy dirt
over promised grass,
Tucson 1992,
thinking of how
I would kill the birds
that would eat the seed
me
thinkng of how
I would control nature
then this
half-memory
has the will to say
"as long as it's the begining of a good thing."
